95% Recoil-Reduction Firearms Retrofit  INSERT. The civilian market is 10 times bigger than defense & police combined,      Live Demos available
For investment, licensing, or partnership                                                  Global Patent Pending

This 95% Recoil-Reduction INSERT fits all firearms. The Insert is visually unnoticeable, by either the shooter or an observer, weighs less than 1/3 of the projectile being fired and outlasts the gun itself. Other than taming recoil, nothing in the weapon’s appearance or performance is changed.  Live demos available.  Your proposal for licensing on royalty basis is welcomed.

Summary:
For civilian and defense use, the 95% recoil-reduction INSERT shatters the myth that all large-bore firearms must have violent recoil. Other than barely perceptible recoil and uplift, shooters and observers will notice little change in the weapon’s performance. With adding CNC software only, this technology can be applied to modular manufacturing of the new whole weapon and the retrofit for all existing small or large firearms.

For Civilian Use:
In sports, hunting, competition, police work, and self-defense, the insert brings significant improvements in accuracy and a faster second shot that will be immediately apparent. During informal shooting sessions, users consistently scored nine hits on standard targets in three seconds, compared to four hits without the recoil-reduction technology.    A strong expansion spring is anchored to the metal platform on one side and the free end is connected to the body of the gun and moves with the gun upon recoil. The gun is connected to the slide of the micrometer by a steel wire 1.5mm Diameter through a hook on each side. As the gun is fired, the recoil displacement is measured by the micrometer. A 28 Kg weight hanged to the spring caused a 1 Inch expansion.
As the gun is fired, a 3 seconds video at 240 FPS is recorded and the recoil displacement is read by the Micrometer. The average measurements of the recoil slide was 1.4 inches for the original Beretta 72 FS while the recoil averaged 0.13 for the same model Beretta with recoil insert. The recoil thrust in Newtons need to be calculated from the recoil distance and period of time needed to travel that displacement distance namely using Newtons falling object equation distance = ½ gt2.
The objective measured recoil reduction confirms the felt recoil reduction leaving no doubt of taming the firearms violent recoil. The untamed recoil reduces accuracy and slows down the second shot, a two factors that your life might depend on.

Live demo of no-uplift handgun:

Fig. 1: Handgun in right hand has anti recoil Insert.

Fig. 2. Big uplift & backward recoil (left hand)
is tamed by the recoil retrofit INSERT (right hand).
Also, notice the 2 flying casings.

Two Beretta 9mm handguns – one original (in the left hand) and another retrofitted with the anti-recoil insert were fired simultaneously side by side. The above photo, taken from a video clip, was filmed using an Olympus FE 230 7.1 megapixel video camera at the only original setting of 30 fps speed.
Comparing before-firing image (leftside picture) to during-firing ( rightside picture) of the simultaneously-fired side-by-side handguns, the uplift of the original handgun in the left hand was outstanding as seen in the right picture while the uplift of the handgun that was retrofitted with Recoil Insert in the right hand was minimal.
The up-lift angle was measured from the two pictures by extrapolation lines along the barrels. Similar comparison results were reached when using very light sighting rods or using red laser diodes attached to the barrels.

Fig.  3.   Up-lift angle is approximated by line of sight position before and during firing.

Felt recoil was significant in the left hand but barely felt in the right. Both recoil and uplift measurements using in-house-built Recoil Meter (click future wars button) revealed over 90% reduction by the handgun retrofitted with the Recoil Insert.
Higher speed video photography of fixed 240 fps ( Sony HDR-S10 Camcorder ) verified the high efficiency of the recoil-reduction technology by the Retrofit Insert in the handgun, rifle, and shotgun, as documented below.

Four Handgun Shots on Target within 3 Seconds, is Improved to Nine Hits:
Standard performance tests for some police departments and other special military forces require shooters to deliver at least 4 shots on target within 3 seconds with a handgun. Using our video camera with its manufacturer single video speed of 240 fps and with its single video clip of 3 seconds time length revealed results which can be seen at the link below. In the video the shooter using a handgun retrofitted with recoil insert pumps 9 shots on target in 3 seconds. This dramatic increase in firepower is realized without compromising accuracy.
Doubling the speed of a second shot can be a matter of life or death to the police, special forces, and to the civilian.

Reducing the human factor, recoil was tested using a standard Ransom Rest:
To eliminate the subjective human factor in determining felt-recoil, we used a Ransom Rest (Ransom Rest International, Prescott Valley, Arizona) for another series of tests. The uplift with the original 9mm Beretta was about 12 degrees while the uplift was negligent for the same type Beretta retrofitted with a recoil insert.

Rifle with 95% Recoil-reduction Inserts
One original rifle (Kel-Tec, .223) was lightly held with the left hand; another identical one retrofitted with recoil insert was held with the right hand. Both were fired simultaneously, and filmed by a high-speed camcorder (240fps). The video showed significant recoil displacement, while the one retrofitted with the anti-recoil insert revealed negligent recoil displacement. Click rifle.

Untitled7.jpg
Fig. 5: Insert reduced recoil by 95%, AAE muzzle brake and its flash suppressor were effective. The adapter supressed the flash by 98%

The insert reduced recoil by 95% and meets the needs of civilians, sportsmen, competitors, and the military by delivering greater accuracy and faster follow-up shots.
For the military, reduced recoil applies when firing single rounds, bursts, or many rounds during automatic firing, regardless whether shooting from the shoulder or otherwise. The insert weighs less than half the weight of one of the projectile ( bullet ) being fired.  Other than recoil reduction, the insert has no effect on the appearance or performance of the weapon.

Military Sources Note:
This anti-recoil technology can be adapted for virtually any powder-driven projectile in the inventory. From heavy machine guns and automatic grenade launchers to artillery and tank cannons, we can tame recoil!
Reduced recoil applies when firing single rounds, bursts, or many rounds automatic firing regardless whether shooting from the hip or otherwise. The insert is not a significant extra burden on the soldier because it weighs less than half the weight of the projectile being fired.
Improved accuracy & faster second (follow up) shot may be a matter of life or death for the soldier.
For big bore heavy artillery short-or-long 120 mm cannon or Mortar, the Insert weighing less than one tenth of the projectile being fired has no other effect on performance. The recoil of long 120mm cannon will be reduced from 2-3 meter recoil displacement to 20 cm. The violent recoil of 120mm Mortar will be tamed enough to be mounted on a standard platform on a Jeep or on a robot.
Modularity in producing the new whole gun, replacement parts, or field retrofit parts remain unchanged except for one time modification, at a one time cost of less than $10,000.

Markets for the Recoil INSERT

There are three main markets for the recoil insert:  1.  Defense    2.  Civilian  (commercial)   3. Air & Paint guns:

1.   The Defense market:

The most sensitive  market for firearms is the various branches of the army from the soldier (personnel), to marines, Air force, to Artillery,  and unmanned land, sea, and air vehicles (robots).

Most firearms manufacturers target that luxurious market where the prices has no limit when the equipment has the edge.  You can not sell now a “toilet seat plastic cover “ for $3,500 but an edge brings you the Purchase Orders

The insert brings in a serious defense factor of  improving the accuracy and faster second shot that the soldier’s life may depend on. During informal shooting sessions, insert users consistently scored nine hits on standard targets in three seconds, compared to four hits without the recoil-reduction technology. For video, click Police Qualifier.

      2.   The Civilian market:

Even though the defense is the main market where countries spend 60-80 % of their budget, the market for the insert is twice as big for the Police. The commercial or civilian market is 10 times bigger than that of the police and army combined. Such civilian markets include sports, hunting, competition, and self-defense. However target shooting and competition include the use of some military firearms such as the 50 Caliber rifle.

The INSERT brings significant improvements in accuracy and in speed of  a  second shot, two factors that your life may depend on. For video, click Police Qualifier.

3.   Air & Paint guns market:

Air guns use: Many air guns have the initial bullet (BB or Pellet) of 1,000 FPS, somewhat close and equally effective as regular handgun.

Paint guns for training: The insert improves the accuracy while training.

For Civilian Use:
The insert reduces recoil by 95% and fits the needs of the civilian, sportsman, competitor, hunter, police, & the military providing more accuracy and faster follow up shot, a crucial feature in self defense and may be a matter of life or death especially to the police.
The Insert is a valuable edge to the civilian sportsman, hunter or competitor.

Field retrofit service by trained technicians:
For retrofits in quantity to various groups as the police, shooting ranges, competition teams, or sports clubs, we have trained technicians who install, optimize, and test the field retrofit Insert at clients’ locations. We also have rover technicians for special and individual field retrofits

Works on SHOTGUNS, Too:
The average efficiency of current recoil-reducing devices on shotguns is low, around 10%. Pads, inserts and other devices just don’t deliver adequate levels of recoil reduction.

Taming the Wild & Vicious Recoil of the 12-Gauge Shotgun:
Untitled6.jpg
Fig. 7: The insert delivered recoil reduction of about 95%, as shown on high-speed video.
The unmodified shotgun was displaced 4cm to the rear, while movement of the modified
gun was barely perceptible.

Muzzle brakes are poor recoil reducers; their use on military rifles is primarily as flash suppressors to conceal firing positions from enemy forces.
On shotguns, a popular brand of muzzle brakes provides a two-fold reduction in flash suppression plus some felt-recoil reduction.

Fig. 8: Recoil adapters reduce recoil
and increase flash suppression.

Fig. 9: A side-by-side comparison of the foreground gun (with insert) and an original gun. The original gun evidences strong recoil while the recoil is minimal with the insert.

Among the benefits of AAE’s Recoil Reducer Insert:
     1. For handguns, rifles and shotguns: Faster second shots – an advantage to military, police, hunters and competitors, and improved accuracy.
     2. For military artillery and tank cannons: The ability to mount such systems on relatively light platforms – recoil no longer dictates the weight of the overall system.

General Features:
The insert is not noticeable by the user or the observer and has no other effect on performance and appearance other than taming recoil. The insert weighs less than half the projectile (bullet) being fired.  For the 120mm mortar or cannon the insert weighs less than one tenth of the projectile (shell) being fired.
The insert is non-electrical, very reliable, and adaptable for all types of rounds and weapons, regardless of firing speed. It will not fail and will not degrade over time.
For small arms, field retrofit and testing can be accomplished in 20 minutes.
Minimum number of units considered for retrofitting is 200.

Kickback and Uplift Factors Effecting Accuracy and Fast Second Shot:

The major components of recoil are: 1. Dominant force of recoil is the exhausted-gas explosion at the fore end of the firearm.   2.  The Newtonian reaction to projectile accelerating inside the barrel.   3.  Newtonian lever principle, arm of rotation (force x arm of rotation); 4. The human factors, physical & otherwise.  5. Mechanical mounts:

1.  Dominant force of recoil is the exhausted-gas explosion at the fore end of the firearm: The major force of firearms recoil is the  Newtonian reaction to gas explosion at the fore end of the barrel. This force is proportional to caliber, the inside diameter of the barrel.  Caliber 9mm or 45 has lower recoil than that of 12 gauge grenade thrower or 12 gauge shotgun  This force is 4-6 folds bigger than the kick back caused during projectile acceleration inside the barrel.  This recoil  occurs after the projectile acceleration inside the barrel but the human senses can not recognize shorter than 1/32 seconds time difference.   This type of explosion is the principle in using explosives as dynamite to blow bridges, buildings, and enemy vehicles.

2.  The Newtonian reaction to projectile accelerating inside the barrel: This force is also proportional to caliber, barrel length, and projectile weight and occurs earlier than the dominant recoil component.

3.  Newtonian lever rotation (force x arm of rotation); This uplift inaccuracy depends on the gun tip and the body part holding the fire arm.  In hand guns, this force causes more uplift that lowers accuracy in targeting.  The arm of force ( the distance between the line of the barrel from the holding point is about  1.5 inches.  The one hand hold is not strong to dampen the uplift.  For that reason, the handgun is held with two hands for better accuracy.  In the rifle or shotgun, the arm of rotation is 1.5 -2.5 inches but the shoulder, is much stronger than the extended resulting in better accuracy.  The laser other targeting gadgets are good when speed of a second shot is not needed

4. The human factors, physical & otherwise. The physical strength of the shoulder  or hands contributes to better accuracy as with sharp shooters.  Just plain brain-related factor of good estimation and better sharpshooting called skill is important.  Best example on that is pilot O'Hare who alone and single handedly shot 4 Japanese bombers in two minutes.

5.  Mechanical mounts:  Manual or remote control of firearms mounted on vehicles or robots. Steady, stable, and heavy vehicles are more reliable in accuracy.

Current Recoil Reducers for the Civilian or Military Firearms, Handgun, Rifle, Shotgun, Cannon, & Mortar
1. Recoil reducers to the shotgun:
Current recoil reducers for shotguns include 14 types of shock absorbers from heavy rubber pad at the rear end of the butt to in-butt insert from Graco Mercury reduction system of permanently sealed cylinder partially filled with mercury, to Graves single shock springs, to hydraulic systems inserts inside the butt stock.
For the shotgun, the rubber pads attached to the back end of the butt stock is the best available choice on the market. As others available, the efficiency is low, about 10% recoil reduction but rubber pads reduce the shoulder pain of 12-gauge shotgun hunter or a skeet shooter.
The rubber pads are effective for the single shot and for subsequent or automatic shooting are not acceptable to military rifle because of the extra weight burden to the already over burdened soldier.
The average efficiency of such shock absorbers is low, around 10%. But, to alleviate shoulder pain of the skeet shooter and of the lady hunter. that reduction is what is available on the market till now
Current butt-inserts are effective on the first shot but not effective in the second shot nor in automatic firing. However the Mercury type of shock absorber insert is still appealing to some users for obvious reasons of the best available on the market till now.
External rubber pads at the rear end of the shotgun butt are effective in single or automatic shooting and is part of most 12-gauge shotguns on the market regardless of its extra weight of 0.7 Lbs.
But rubber pads are not acceptable to the military rifle because the soldier who is already overburdened with survival needed items.
Briley weights clamped to muzzle or capped at the fore end are effective but customer acceptance is not there.
2. Recoil reducers to the handgun:
The Graco Mercury reduction system, the Graves single shock springs, the hydraulic system, and the heavy weight attached to the fore end of the muzzle are ineffective and rarely used.
3. Recoil reducers to cannons & large firearms:
For long 120mm cannons on a tank, the recoil reducer is a compression heavy spring shock absorber with back recoil of 2 -3 meters with violent effect on electronics and crew. With AAE insert the recoil is tamed to 20-30cm back displacement with minimal recoil impact on the crew or the electronics.
4. Recoil reducers to 120mm Mortars:
For the 120mm Mortar, the insert will tame the wild recoil to allow mounting the Mortar on a Jeep or on a robot for faster airlift to hot spots and more important for close range accurate urban battlefield use.
The Mortar projectile falls down on target with minimal collateral damage. In contrast the use of long cannon or artillery the projectile is rerouted to maneuver upwards then fall on target from above in order to reduce collateral damage. Rerouting the projectile is open to jamming devices and to many weather factors.

Patent Protection:
The global patent protection includes the use of the insert as well as its manufacturing and sale.
Infringement on copy rights is a protection against sneak manufacturer who succeeds in reverse engineering the INSERT.
The end user ( government or individuals) who has no certificate of use are liable too. Government purchases always include the ownership terms stating that the supplier has the patent rights of the product they sell.  ( This is how Bill Gates got $3 Billion from China )
Inventor Dr. Z., the patent holder of the recoil insert, seeks a win-win license agreement where the lion's share of future business and profits will belong to the licensee and the inventor gets a reasonable % royalty plus a down payment affordable by the licensee.
AAE Muzzle fore-end recoil adapter with moderate recoil reduction, reduces the flash by more than 98% and it works with or without the silencer to substantially prevent giving away position.

Test & Evaluation:
A US test facility (Picatinny Arsenal, New Jersey) recently developed a device that measures recoil reduction from various designs applied to small arms.  However, experience has shown that there is unusually a long waiting time before a system can be tested at Picatinny.
For practical R&D needs, AAE has developed an in-house reliable recoil meter with a calibration curve generated by the force of dropping 2 & 5 Kg weights from 1, 2, 4 feet high.

Too-good-to-be-true Achievement in Firearms Recoil Reduction:
Over 500 years of violent recoil experience in shotguns, handguns, and cannons has led us to believe that the recoil is inevitable and is everlasting. Without breaking any law of physics or those of Newton, we say a new day is dawning and the live demonstration of CalTeck & M16 rifles, Beretta 9mm handgun, and 12-gauge shotgun can outweigh the 5 centuries myth and self-inflicted brain wash on firearms recoil.

Recoil Reduction Value in 120mm Mortar Cannon in Urban Battle:
To reduce collateral damage, artillery smart bombs are rerouted to fall on target from above, assuming no counter measures and assuming even winds factors a  none existing  environment.  Neither targeting nor minimal collateral damage are assured with long range artillery.
However, a mortar mounted on a jeep inside or outside the city battle zone can deliver their smart bombs with  natural fall on target from above, with more accuracy, and at a closer range.
